Shipley College Great People Lorna

We have some amazing staff members at Shipley, find out about Lorna one of our Learning Support Assistants and her journey…

Lorna started working at Shipley College as a cleaner in 2012 and then took on the role as part-time Learning Support Assistant in September 2022. We asked Lorna about her decision to apply for a different role within the college:

"I decided to go for the LSA role because it was a good next step after working as a cleaner for a few years. My role means I will either be assigned to particular students or will just generally help in the class. I help with writing and reading for students during the lesson and I also help some of our visually impaired students. Whilst the main role is to support the students everyday is different which is something I love most about the job. The college is so friendly and because I already knew everyone here it made sense to make the next step and take on an additional role. Working here you meet a lot of new people and you make friends with the people you work with.

Another benefit to working in the college is that they’re very supportive of my progression, alongside working I am redoing my maths and English qualifications and I have received lots of support. It's great that you’re able to learn new things whilst working!"
