Shipley College Great People Clark

We have some amazing staff members at Shipley, Clark is one of our Esports tutors and has worked at the College since 2019. Alongside teaching Esports he is an avid follower of the industry and enjoys bringing his passion for the sport into his teaching! We asked Clark about his work at the college and his background in gaming:

'I have a background in Fine Art, I studied a BA in Fine Art and then an MA in Contemporary Art Practice focusing on moving image. I started at Shipley College working in the Art department as a technician. When a role became available in the media team it linked in really well with my background in fine art film so I decided to go for it.

I first started competing in Esports when I was 11, I used to go to a LAN cafe to compete in Counter Strike 1.6 tournaments and I have been following Esports since season 2 of the League of Legends World Championships in 2013. Through my interest in Esports I heard about the new qualification and pitched it as an idea for a new course at the college. We had a lot of interest in it and since our first wave of students started in September 2022 we’ve had lots of great feedback and the students are loving it, they get to compete in Esports championships every Wednesday with colleges around the country so it's all good experience for them, we have two Rocket League teams and a Valorant team.

I love working at Shipley College because I'm part of a really great team and there's a friendly atmosphere. Saltaire is also a great location, I like the vibe and the strong sense of local community. My favourite part of my job is helping coach the students and preparing them for the Esports tournaments, it's a fast growing industry and I love that I am able to bring my passion for gaming into work!'
