It was an early 6am start to their fundraising efforts for students and staff from Hft and Shipley College.
The aim was to climb to the summit of Snowdon, the highest mountain in England and Wales. Led by experienced walkers, Richard, Ryan and Matt, the group of 21 planned to complete a 9-mile guided ascent and descent of the Llanberis Pass.
The first half of the route was fairly level, and they enjoyed the views and sunshine stopping off for a quick rest at the Halfway house. They progressed on until the route continued to get steeper and they made their way up ‘Allt Moses, a hard 250 metre series of giant steps before a steady walk across the rougher path. They then made their way up slowly and safely past an accident blackspot, the ‘Killer Convex’, known for how dangerous it can be in Winter.
At around 1.45pm, they had successfully climbed their way to the summit, and despite being unable to see the views due to the mist, they were all in good spirits and proud that they had overcome physical, emotional and health challenges to get there.
They then had to endure the careful 4.5-mile return back down the mountain. They stopped off for a quick sandwich break, where the mist subsided and they were able to enjoy the sunny, amazing views Snowdon had to offer of the Clogwyn Du’r Arddu, a popular climbing cliff on the north flank of Snowdon, as well as the surrounding countryside.
The team reached the bottom by around 4.45pm and were celebrating, relaxing and enjoying a nice hot drink from the Platform Grill before receiving their certificates and returning on the coach back to Bradford.
A fantastic achievement for the whole team that completed the fundraising challenge, and you should all be proud of yourselves. Well done!
