Foundation Learning students travelled to the Magna Centre in Rotherham for The Rock Challenge, a national performance competition of mime, movement and dance. They competed in the regional heats against schools and colleges from West and South Yorkshire.
Congratulations to all the students who performed and helped in the production and planning of their piece as well as the members of staff who helped make the performance happen! The performance was for The Rock Challenge UK, in association with the Be Your Best Foundation which aims to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles. Each year there is a theme and this year with the theme was about overcoming stereotypes and pre-conceptions. Their performance was based on Frankenstein’s monster and how he overcame people’s judgements.
The students made Shipley College proud coming away with 5 awards for Video Performance, Set Design and Function, Excellence for Entertainment, Lighting and Excellence for Performance Skill.
We have made good friends along the way, both in college as well as with all the other people we met on the day of the competition. It is really good opportunity for us to be able to compete in competitions like this, which are an amazing experience as well as being fun. We really loved getting involved and now have so much more confidence and self esteem as well as a better understanding of the Frankenstein story.Foundation Learning students
The students fundraised for the event by making warm breakfast sandwiches for staff in College and will continue the fundraising for future projects.
