Art student Ismah wins fashion competition

Congratulations to Level 3 Art & Design student Ismah for being selected as the winner of a Bradford School of Art Fashion competition!

The Fashion Design programme invited people to design a men's or women's outfit, using the word "home" as a starting point for their creation.
Ismah interpreted the theme as home being the living space for sea creatures, and designed an 'Orca' whale inspired dress. Her submission explained:

"The materials for the body of the dress will be made using crushed velvet, of the colours black and white to resemble an Orca. I have chosen crushed velvet because it resembles the shine on the skin of an Orca. The white fabric will be sewn on the sides as shown on the design. The arms will be made of chiffon and will hang loosely over the arms and more puffed up like on the design. White satin will be applied to the hem of the dress in two pleated layers like a skirt, to give it a very pleasing aesthetic, and vintage type of style."

Impressing the judges, Ismah's design will be constructed in the School of Art fashion department and worn by a model in the Graduate end of year fashion show, and she also took home £25 of shopping vouchers.

Ismah explained, "I really enjoyed taking part in this competition because it was an interesting and challenging experience. I realised that home can be expressed in different ways and holds a different meaning for each person, which I thought was fascinating."

Angela Loftus, BA Fashion Programme Leader at Bradford School of Art, said "Many congratulations and a massive well done on a great entry that challenged an interesting subject matter."

Well done Ismah!
