In November, Victoria Hall in Saltaire reached its 150th anniversary. The Salt Foundation, which holds the Hall in trust for the community, held an event to celebrate that its doors remain open to the public in 2022.
Nearly 100 guests attended whose work helps to keep Victoria Hall open. The event showcased regular activities in this fabulous venue, built by Sir Titus Salt as a 'centre for recreation, culture and learning' for local people.
College Foundation students provided the delicious buffet and Floristry students created beautiful floral arrangements for the Hall stage and windowsills.
The current Lord Mayor, Councillor Martin Love (a longstanding Salt Foundation trustee) attended with the Lady Mayoress. He introduced a video made by Shipley College Creative Media students and featuring Saltaire Swans ballet classes. The film showcases the Hall by following the dancers in one long shot (8 minutes) as they move from room to room.
Principal Diana Bird was invited by Molly Kenyon, chair of Salt Foundation trustees, to speak about the long term College-Foundation relationship. Molly also thanked the Victoria Hall team who are employed by the College on behalf of the Foundation.
Live entertainment was provided by the Cinema Organ Society, the Great Yorkshire Chorus and Saltaire Academy of the Sword.
