The National Skills Fund is now available to more people than ever before! 

As a part of the Government’s commitment to help people gain skills for life, the National Skills Fund investments help those 19+ gain the valuable skills they need to progress in their career or start a new adventure.

If you are 19+ and

  • earning under the National Living Wage (£19,305, or £18,525 if not from an eligible regional postcode) regardless of your previous qualifications


  • earning over the National Living Wage and it is your first level 3 qualification

you could be eligible for funding to help your studies. Whether you want to change your career or gain skills in your sector, we have a fantastic range of courses to get you there!


The following courses are available at Shipley College for free under the National Skills Fund:


Certificate in Understanding Mental Health

With 1 in 4 adults experiencing a mental health problem every year, this certificate is designed to give you a greater awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental well-being.


Understanding Autism certificate

Do you support someone with autism? This course will help you develop your understanding of the challenges faced by people with autism and learn how to address the individual’s specific needs.


Diploma in Counselling Skills

This course will provide you with knowledge of how to use counselling skills in everyday life and work. You can use the skills you gain as part of your role at work or use it to progress towards accredited counsellor status.


Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care

Gain the skills and understanding needed to care for patients approaching the end of their lives. The course covers a wide range of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care. 


Adult Care Diploma

Gain the skills needed for a career in the care sector! Learn key elements of safeguarding & protection, wellbeing, equality & inclusion, and person-centred approaches.


Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) Diploma

Do you work with children aged 0-5 years? Gain the skills needed to help you progress in your career, from supporting healthy lifestyles through exercise to helping children with the transition to school.


Horticulture Extended certificate

The certificate is a one-year course aimed at people with a passion for Horticulture. If you are looking for a new career, already working in the horticulture industry or want to develop your interest further, this course is for you. 


National Foundation Diploma in Horticulture

Gain skills in decorative horticulture, nursery stock management, garden design, plant use & maintenance, as well as plant & soil science.


National Diploma in Horticulture

Thinking of a career change or wanting to increase your horticultural skills to gain a qualification? You will develop skills in decorative horticulture, hard landscaping and plant use & maintenance.


Coding practices certificate

Want to learn more about coding? Start your career by increasing your knowledge of software, coding standards, and interpreted & compiled code.


Cyber Security Practices Certificate

Get a start in the growing field of Cyber Security by increasing your knowledge of key cyber security topics including legislation, the threat model and how to reduce cyber security vulnerability


Diploma in Rail Engineering Technology

Want to get into rail? This course will give you the knowledge of railway civil engineering, track engineering, construction and maintenance which includes some practical work experience on real track lines.


If you are not eligible for this offer, Advanced Learner Loans are available to help you cover the costs of learning, which you pay back when you are earning over a certain amount.
