You may also be able to study for free if you are:

  • Claiming certain benefits (e.g. Universal Credit, JSA, ESA)

  • Looking to improve your employment prospects

This may cover selected courses from Entry Level up to Level 2.

Eligibility is assessed on an individual basis at enrolment.

FAQ

FAQ 1 — Are free courses available for all adults in Bradford?

Not always. Free courses depend on your age, residency, income, employment status, and your highest qualification. Some courses are fully funded under government schemes, but eligibility must always be checked before enrolment.

FAQ 2 — What free courses can adults study at Shipley College?

We may offer free courses in English, maths, digital skills, ESOL, employability, health and social care, business, and selected Level 3 qualifications through the Free Courses for Jobs initiative. Availability depends on funding at the time of enrolment.

FAQ 3 — Am I eligible for a free Level 3 course?

You may be eligible if you’re 19+, live in the qualifying region, and either:

  • do not already hold a Level 3 qualification, or

  • you are unemployed, or

  • you earn below the local funding threshold.
All Level 3 funding is subject to individual assessment and government rules.

FAQ 4 — Do I need to provide evidence for funding?

Yes. You may need to provide ID, proof of address, benefit evidence, wage slips, or qualification certificates. This is a standard requirement for all government-funded courses.

FAQ 5 — What happens if I’m not eligible for free funding?

We will discuss alternative options such as payment plans, part-funded places, or courses that are already low cost. You will never be enrolled onto a paid course without being told first.

FAQ 6 — Are all Level 3 courses free at Shipley College?

No. Only specific Level 3 courses are eligible, and only if you meet the funding criteria. Funding availability varies during the year.
