Launch Your Career: The New 2026 Level 2 Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship at Shipley College
Are you looking to start a fulfilling career in care, or are you an existing carer eager to formalise your skills? Shipley College is proud to introduce our updated Adult Care Apprenticeship program.
This qualification is specifically designed to support learners in developing the vital knowledge, practical skills, and values required to work across a range of clinical healthcare support settings and health and adult care environments. By utilising modern technology, you will track your learning journey using a streamlined electronic portfolio throughout the entire apprenticeship.
To ensure you succeed both in the classroom and in the workplace, the apprenticeship includes tailored components adjusted to your background:
The Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate: This is a mandatory requirement of the program. If you have not already achieved it, we will embed and support you to complete it during your studies.
Functional Skills (Maths & English):
Learners aged 16–18: You will be fully supported and encouraged to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills if you haven't already done so.
Learners aged 19+: You have the flexibility to opt out of the functional skills component, provided your employer explicitly agrees. This will be fully discussed and finalized during your sign-up session.
Core Mandatory Topics:
Effective Communication in Care Settings
Person-Centred Approaches to Support and Care
Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Standards
Pathway to Completion: The Practical Period & EPA
The Practical Period (12 Months): You will spend a year working in your care environment, building up your electronic portfolio, completing your coursework, and sharpening your clinical and social care skills.
It’s ideal for those new to the sector, looking to upskill, or seeking a nationally recognised qualification for a variety of roles such as an adult care worker, healthcare assistant, or support worker.
You can progress onto the Level 3 Lead care adult care worker.
