This qualification supports learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.
For apprenticeship learners aged 16-18 they should be encouraged to achieve a Level 1 functional skills (if not already achieved) If aged 19+ they can opt out but only if the employer agrees, this will be discussed on sign up. The Care Certificate is also mandatory if not already achieved.


Choosing the Level 2 Diploma in Care is beneficial for gaining essential knowledge and practical skills for a career in adult social care, enhancing employability, and providing a foundation for further career growth. It’s ideal for those new to the sector, existing carers looking to upskill, or those seeking a nationally recognised qualification for a variety of roles such as an adult care worker, healthcare assistant, or support worker.


At the end of your practical period (12 months) you must complete a self assessment and a service user testimony before completing an End point of assessment within 3 months. (involving a professional discussion and multiple choice exercise).

What You'll Learn and Do
You will learn a range of knowledge/understanding and skills on mandatory topics such as: communication, person centred approaches, safeguarding, and health and safety. Also you will be working on optional units that are relevant and dependent on your job role, for example: mental capacity act, dementia and Parkinson’s.

Entry requirements

You should be at least 16 years old. Have a job as an apprentice in a Health & Social Care setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week (this will include one day in College per week). You must pass an initial assessment in English & maths.

Please note, unless you already have grades 9-4 in maths and English, you will need to study up to Level 2 in these subjects. You will need to attend an interview. Hold a clear Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check at the start of the course.

Progression Information

After your apprenticeship, you could secure work and progress within your chosen career or choose to train further with the Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship.
