With this year’s edition of BBC Children in Need taking place last week, various fundraising efforts have seen nearly £1000 raised across Shipley College.

Featuring as the day’s showstopper, a very special ‘Danceathon’ was responsible for £583 of this – 16% over its initial target.

Organised and led by Stanzi Keighley (Foundation Learning Lecturer), the event saw Foundation Hub students and staff take on a challenge of three hours non-stop dancing in Victoria Hall.

The idea even caught the attention of the press, with both BBC Look North and the Telegraph & Argus in attendance to cover it.

An accomplished dancer herself, Stanzi reflected on the Danceathon: “We couldn't have wished for a better turn out! So many people came to support and the vibe was incredible.

“It was all inspired by the students and my dancing background. We love our weekly dance sessions; they make us all happy and are great for fitness. I was so proud of the students who all pushed through and kept smiling when it got hard. They loved it and were super proud of being on TV and in the paper!

“A big thank you to everyone who sponsored us. I can't believe how much we raised for such a good cause – I’m absolutely over the moon.”

Elsewhere across the College, students from other provisions – many in their pyjamas as part of the cause – also did their bit to raise money for fellow children and young people across the UK.

This included a ‘Pudsey Raffle’ from Foundation T Level (Education & Childcare) students and the sale of delicious, home-baked treats by Next Steps for Employment learners.

When all combined and counted, this meant a final total raised of £937.81!

Well done to everyone who played their part and thank you to anyone who donated.
