HUNDREDS CELEBRATE AT VIBRANT SHIPLEY COLLEGE CULTURE EVENT
Saltaire’s Victoria Hall was buzzing and filled to capacity on Thursday 27th November for the annual Shipley College Culture Event.
Celebrating the diversity and creativity that shapes the College, the afternoon brought together students, staff and partners organisations for a schedule of music, performance, food and cultural expression.
Attendees were able to enjoy traditional dance, singing, drumming and music from across the world, with performances delivered by students themselves. This included singing by Jeweriya Ahmed, Bollywood dance by Ammina Kauser, and drumming by Hashim Qamar.
Event organiser Joanne Wilde, Wellbeing Coach said:
“The Culture Event was a truly uplifting celebration of our students and community. Victoria Hall was packed, the energy was fantastic, and our students’ confidence and creativity were on full display. It’s days like this that show why we’re so proud of our rich diversity at Shipley College. I’d like to thank all of our students, staff and partner organisations for making it so special. The warmth, talent and enthusiasm on show captured exactly what makes this College such a welcoming and inspiring place to be!”
In addition to the entertainment was a range of stalls, among a backdrop of colourful displays and world flags.
College-run stalls offered quizzes, activities and sustainability information, while external stakeholders – including Safe Spaces Bradford, Bradford Youth Service, MESMAC, Locala, Hale, Bradford 2025 and Bradford City of Sanctuary - contributed with support and information.
Food was a major highlight, thanks to an impressive spread prepared by Foundation Learning students. Featured among the feast from across the world was chilli, Asian snacks, cakes and various other international dishes.
The Culture Event remains a key date in the Shipley College calendar, strengthening community ties and giving students a platform to share, express and take pride in their cultural heritage.
