Staff from across Shipley College came together this week as part of the College’s growing Professional Learning Network — an initiative designed to support collaboration, innovation and continuous professional development across teaching teams.

The event focused on curriculum design and preparing students for their future careers, further study and progression opportunities, with colleagues sharing ideas, classroom experiences and approaches to teaching and learning ahead of the next academic year.

The Professional Learning Network, launched earlier this year, forms part of the College’s wider commitment to teaching excellence and staff development. The initiative includes coaching, shared learning opportunities, online resources and collaborative CPD activities throughout the year.

Luke Terry, Head of Teaching, Learning and Innovation at Shipley College, said: “The Professional Learning Network is all about colleagues coming together to share ideas, reflect on practice and learn from one another. Today’s focus has been on curriculum design and thinking about what makes a really strong curriculum for our students — preparing them for their next steps, whether that’s university, employment or further training.”

He added: “One of the biggest benefits is the collaborative approach. It allows experienced staff to work alongside colleagues who may be newer to teaching, while also helping people feel part of a wider team and wider organisation. The atmosphere throughout the year has been really positive — productive, supportive and focused on improving the experience for students.”

The College says the initiative is helping to strengthen collaboration across departments while encouraging staff to continually develop new approaches that support student success, progression and wellbeing.
