Shipley College Saltaire New Mill Canal

Since colleges were first incorporated in 1993 through the Further & Higher Education Act, Shipley College has been fully responsible for its own governance, management and administration.

Under this arrangement, the Principal and Senior Leadership Team report to a Governing Body (Corporation) which is made up of Members from the local business and wider community, together with Staff and Student Members.

The Shipley College Corporation is governed by the "Instrument and Articles of Further Education Corporations" of Government as amended which came into effect on 1st August 2018.

MEET THE GOVERNORS

Shipley College Governors Kerry Robinson

Kerry Robinson

For most of my career, I worked in the retail, hospitality and customer service business. I have worked in a senior role as an HR and Learning & Development Manager for a major retailer based in Yorkshire. 


I worked for Bradford Council in Education, Employment and Skills, delivering bespoke recruitment and people services for a wide range of employers across the Bradford District. Partnership working, which included participation in the delivery of bespoke solutions through Bradford District FE Colleges. 

Shipley College Governors Sanjay Kundu

Sanjoy Kundu

I am a passionate and accomplished Manager with over 27 years experience in performance & leadership roles. Becoming the College Governor is a way to give back to the local Community and contribute to the education sector. 

I am a trusted partner to many local Small Medium Enterprise’s in West Yorkshire, covering a wide range of Sectors.

I was formally appointed in December 2023 and am a member of the Finance and Resources Committee.

Shipley College Governors Grace Jeffrey

Grace Jeffrey

I am an NHS manager with experience of managing national, regional, and organisational programmes, an independent leadership coach, with a special interest in inclusion, health, and wellbeing.  I am a qualified accountant, and hold an MSc in Accounting from Leeds Beckett University as well as considerable financial and management accounting experience gained in both the private and public sector.


Previously I was on the Board of Reemap, a charity committed to improving the academic attainment of Black, Asian and minority ethnic children and prior to that I volunteered at a community based after school club

Danielle Carter

Director of Governance

I joined the college in 2022. I have completed my Level 5 Award for Further Education Governance Professionals. I previously worked in Governance and Compliance at a Multi Academy Trust serving 17 schools, both Primary and Secondary. 

I have worked in education since 2013 in various roles including Admin, Head of Year, HLTA and Academic Support - with a focus in Post 16 Education and Post 18 Aspirations. 

Prior to my move into Education I spent 8 years in a senior administration role within the private sector, providing high quality finance administration and customer service to their nationwide contracts. 

Shipley College Governors Peter Whittle

Peter Whittle

Chair of Governors

I have worked in the finance industry for over 35 years in a wide variety of roles, in later years specialising in credit assessment and problematic lending situations. I have been involved in educational governance for over 25 years serving as member, Vice Chair, Chair and Trustee.
 
My interests are travel,  golf and motorsport. I have been treasurer for the local golf club and past treasurer for the motor club. I am also a qualified Motorsport UK Clerk of the course.

Shipley College Governors Nigel Hainsworth

Nigel Hainsworth

I am a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. I work for HM Revenue & Customs, the UK's tax administration authority, where I lead a team of counter-fraud investigators. I also develop and deliver training to build the capability of colleagues.


I am married and have 2 daughters, an English Teacher and a Cardiac Physiologist, and consider my greatest achievement to be working with them to ensure they achieved their academic potential within the state education system.

 

Shipley College Governors Dr Phill Hunter

Dr. Phil Hunter

I am an experienced senior public sector manager who has worked in Bradford for over 15 years.  Currently, my portfolio covers post-16 education, career and technical education, adult education, employment and skills, Key Cities education and skills, devolution, and outdoor education.  

I have worked for a variety of public sector bodies, the Office for National Statistics, Devon County Council and the Learning and Skills Council.

Shipley College Governors Joanne Beaumont

Joanne Beaumont

I am the Associate Director Student Services: Careers, Employability and Engagement at the University of Bradford. My understanding and experience in the arenas of careers, employability, graduate employment, social mobility, inclusion, business engagement and partnership working have been developed over 30 years, working within public, private and 3rd sector organisations.

Outside of work I enjoy walking – ideally in the Dales and Lakes, travelling in the UK and overseas, and playing in musical groups.

I look forward to contributing however I can to Shipley College achieving its mission and goals.

Shipley College Governors David Butcher

David Butcher

I am a chartered accountant and have held various financial management positions in both private and public sectors.

I am currently Director of Finance and Planning at Leeds Trinity University and my responsibilities include the strategic and operational management of all financial affairs; strategic and business planning; and leading the risk management process.

Shamila Hussain

Shamila Hussain

As a teacher of English and Educational Training at Shipley College, I am dedicated to creating inclusive and empowering learning experiences. 
I have worked in Education and in the community for a number of years as a teacher, historian and researcher. My work explores the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion in educational spaces. I am also an advocate for social justice, working to overcome barriers to learning—whether they are social, cultural or related to neurodiversity. My goal is to support transformative change and ensure that all members of our community have equal opportunities and self-confidence to succeed.

Paul Goodridge

Vice Chair
I am a chartered accountant by trade but have spent most of my career as a CFO in global technology businesses covering both semiconductors and software sectors.  I have had extensive experience of supporting businesses to grow and in my time have managed IPOs and major M&A transactions.
My current focus is to use my extensive experience to help others grow. Amongst my current I am a part time mentor to finance professionals and am thrilled to be part of the Shipley College team  supporting learners in the local community to flourish.
