Free Courses for Jobs

If you are over 19, you could access a Level 3 (A-Level or Advanced Technical Certificate equivalent) course for FREE. The Government 'Free Courses for Jobs' scheme will pay your fees if you are eligible, and this could gain you new skills desired by employers, a higher wage or increased job prospects.

Below is a list of some of the useful course options available to you at Shipley College, all of which are in sectors that are actively looking for new entrants. They include fast track careers in Rail, courses in the sought-after areas of counselling, care and mental health, and modern technical qualifications in ever-growing areas like Cyber Security and Software Development. Most of these courses are over several months and are worth anywhere between £800 and £7000.
You can check whether your course will be FREE by calling the Enrolments Team or by checking the government website. In short, if you are over 19 and live in an eligible postcode area, you will receive funding if this is your first Level 3 qualification. Alternatively, if you already have a Level 3 qualification and you are either unemployed and receiving benefits, or you are working but your annual gross earnings are less than £21,255 (£18,525 annually if not from an eligible regional postcode), then you would also be eligible for funding. 
 
There is also support through the Learner Support Fund if you are 19+ to help with the cost of equipment, travel, and childcare.

 AAT Diploma in Accounting Level 3

This AAT course is ideal for anyone who is looking to advance existing knowledge of accounting. It is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. This qualification covers a range of complex accounting tasks. You will learn & master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, preparing financial concepts, management accounting, tax processes and business awareness.

Understanding Mental Health Level 3

The mental health crisis is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, with 1 in 4 adults experiencing a mental health problem every year. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health is designed to provide a greater awareness of mental health issues and the importance of mental well-being.

Understanding Autism Level 3

Do you support people with autism? Develop your understanding of the challenges faced by people with autism and learn how to address the their specific needs. Ideal whether you are working in statutory, private or voluntary services as it covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas providing support to people with autism.

Principles of End of Life Care NCFE CACHE Level 3

End of life care provides support for people approaching death, enabling them to live their lives as well as possible until they pass away. The level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care can give you the knowledge and understanding needed to care for patients approaching the end of their lives. It covers a wide range of care settings, including hospices, care homes, care in the community and primary care. You will look at the common questions and themes in end of life care and gain an understanding of how to support a person’s familial, spiritual, social and emotional needs.

Gateway Level 3 Certificate in Networking & Cybersecurity

This course is for anyone who is interested in a career in cybersecurity. By the end of the qualification you will have developed an understanding of project management, access control, data communications, ethical hacking, network management, network threats and vulnerabilities, and networking.

Gateway Level 3 Diploma in Software Development 

This course is for anyone keen to have a career in software development. It follows a blended model with the Coding Institute approved by Gateway, the Awarding Body. The course has been developed alongside consultants with years of industry knowledge. It will prepare you for employment within different roles in the digital and creative industries and in other industries that require specific digital and IT skills within software development. By the end of the course you will understand the principles of project management and the methodologies used by organisations to manage IT projects, be able to use project management to plan an IT project and be able to use project management software to monitor and review an IT project.

Counselling Skills NCFE CACHE Level 3

This course is designed for those interested in using counselling skills as part of their functional role in a wide range of sector areas, or looking to progress towards accredited counsellor status with one of the counselling professional accrediting bodies. It will provide you with more in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. You study units in developing counselling skills, theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills, working ethically with counselling skills, counselling skills & diversity, and counselling skills & personal development.

Horticulture Level 3

This Level 3 qualification can be taken as a one year or two year course. In the first year you will complete the units you need to be awarded the Extended Certificate in Horticulture.  If you choose to return for a second year, you will complete a further five units leading to a National Diploma. You will learn how to identify, maintain & care for plants, propagation techniques, understand how plants grow and how to use tools & machinery.

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Leadership & Management

This qualification is ideal for individuals who have management responsibilities but no formal training. If you are serious about developing your skills and knowledge, then this course is for you. It is part of the National Skills Fundable qualifications aimed at upskilling the country. It will help you to gain a range of key management skills and put them into practuice in your own role. It will help you to develop your leadership capabilities - to motivate and engage teams, managing relationships confidently. It will also help you to develop your leadership and management skills using your own knowledge, values and motivations.
