We have been rated ‘GOOD’ for a second time by Ofsted in a positive report from inspectors following a visit in January. It has been the second short inspection carried out since we were judged to be good in February 2013.
The recent Ofsted report said: “Since the previous inspection governors, leaders and managers have successfully sustained the quality of the education that learners and apprentices receive.
“Learners are proud to study at the college. Most learners develop effective working relationships as part of their studies and contribute well in class and in the many social activities in which they take part. Learners benefit from a safe and friendly learning environment. “
The report also says that managers, tutors, and staff provide meaningful support to learners. They are described as having a “good appreciation” of issues that learners may face as part of their studies and lives in general. Staff are conscious of the need to support learners with issues such as improving their mental health and keeping themselves safe.
It adds: “Apprentices make effective contributions to their workplace and swiftly become valuable members of their employer’s teams. As a result, they are able to apply their learning to their job roles much better. Adult learners gain confidence and improve.”
“Teaching staff are routinely encouraged to improve their craft of teaching through regular staff development and updating sessions. Consequently, their subject knowledge and expertise continually improve.”
Part of the college’s feedback stated learners need to understand their progression and employment opportunities earlier in their course by providing clear careers advice and guidance based on their aspirations and ambitions.
We are very pleased with the many, very positive things they saw and reported on, confirming what a great place Shipley College is to work and to study.Julie Kitcheman, College Vice Principal and Ofsted nominee
