ESOL students take part in a national reading challenge

ESOL students from across the College and community are taking part in a national Reading Agency competition.

Reading Ahead promotes a love of reading among young people and adults, and there is a broad spectrum of materials to choose from, including cookery books, magazines or novels to name a few.

Eighty-seven students have signed up to read six items in six months in the College, organised by the Learning Resource Centre and the department for English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Six students have already completed the six reads and received their prizes -  a certificate, a Reading Ahead goody bag with a dictionary, and entry into a prize draw to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

All six ESOL students from the Meridian Centre completed the challenge and are thrilled with their prizes. It’s rare for so many to have completed this early, which I really think shows their determination and ESOL tutors’ enthusiasm and support.
