Centre of Excellence students to pitch for funding for a local charity

Level 3 Business and IT students have started the academic year with a project to use their creativity and determination to improve their local community.

Two representatives from First Give, an organisation which supports young people to give their time and talent to good causes met with students in mid-January. Freya and Louisa outlined how the First Give programme encourages students to identify social issues in their area and engage with charities to address them.

Over the next 8 weeks, the students with divide into teams to carry out research to identify local charities which they feel would benefit from a £1000 funding boost. They will create a plan of how to raise awareness for them.

After presenting individual team pitches, the students will then vote for the charity which goes forward to the grand final. The chosen team will produce a presentation for a panel of judges in a Dragon’s Den style format to explain why their chosen charity deserves the additional funds.

 Good luck to everyone!
