Learner Support Fund

If you are 19 and over, depending on your personal circumstances, you may be able to get financial support from the Learner Support Fund. This fund can help students with the cost of course materials, equipment, travel costs and childcare costs. To find out if you are eligible, contact Student Services.

Students with Disabilities

Shipley College is committed to supporting the learning of all students. If you have a disability, learning difficulty or have benefited from support in the past we encourage you to tell us about it. We can then work with you to provide the help and assistance that you may require. To discuss support, please contact the Learning Support Team on 01274 327260.

When applying for a course, please complete Section 1d and 2a on the Enrolment form. This helps us monitor our service and ensures we offer any support you may need to get the most out of your time at Shipley College.

The Advanced Learner Loan

What is an Advanced Learner Loan?

An Advanced Learner Loan may be able to help with the cost of course fees. They are for anyone aged 19 and over to help fund the tuition fees to study qualifications at Level 3 or Level 4. Repayments on the loan don't start until you have completed the course and are earning more than £25,000 a year.

More information can be found at www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan

Useful to know:

  • If you’re unsure about taking out a loan and want to seek advice then you should contact the Money Advice Service, established by the UK government, who can offer free, impartial advice by visiting their website - Money Advice Service
  • If you have been granted a full or partial Advanced Learner Loan, you will still be liable for the balance of course and exam fees not covered by the loan and the College may be able to offer installment payments via standing order.
  • If you withdraw from a course funded by the Advanced Learner Loan, the College's policy is not to refund course and exam fees, except in exceptional circumstances. You will remain liable for any part of the course and exam fees not received by the College from the Student Loans Company.
If the fees are not paid in full within the notice period or as agreed, the outstanding debt will be referred to the College's debt collection agents. A debt recovery administration charge of 12% may be added to the outstanding debt to cover the debt collection costs.

You can also contact Student Services staff who are available to help with any queries.
