Learn the skills required by a Teaching Assistant, ensuring pupils get the most out of their lessons. You could help to plan, carry out and evaluate a wide range of learning activities, working both alongside the teacher to support classroom activities, and alone with individuals or groups of students. Some learning support staff specialise in areas such as music or special needs.

You must be 16 years or over, and must have a minimum of Grade 4 in English (or functional skills Level 2) and Grade 3 in Maths (functional skills Level 1) . Also, it is desirable to have a minimum of 1 year’s relevant industry experience and/or a Level 2 qualification in Childcare (but not essential). You must be employed as an apprentice in a Primary, Secondary or College setting for a minimum of 30 hours a week (this will include one day in College per week). If you are not employed already the College will support you to find a suitable employer, where you will be required to attend for an interview. A clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at the start of the course.
