This course is very hands-on and gives you lots of practical experience with children to prepare you for working in nurseries or other childcare settings.
You will learn about creative activities such as stories, poems & rhymes to help with child development, as well as healthy eating, child safety and communication with children. Throughout your studies, you will gain personal & social development skills to help you on the course and when finding a job.
As part of your study programme, you will be introduced to other subjects alongside Childcare and you will have the chance to gain important qualifications in English, maths and ICT.

2 GCSEs at grade 2 or above in both English & maths, however, GCSE grade 3 would be preferable. If you do not have grade 4 or above, you will study them as part of your study programme.
You will complete an assessment to find out which course level is right for you. A positive attitude and a keen interest in caring for children is ideal. You will attend an introductory ‘taster’ session before the course starts, to see if it is the right course for you.
After completing your course, you could move on to the Children’s Play, Learning & Development (Early Years Assistant) BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma or on to an apprenticeship.
