British Sign Language Level 1 Award

This course teaches you how to communicate with deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language use. The course is suitable if you want to learn new language skills as part of a programme of study or to progress to more advanced study and/or employment using BSL in the future. Please note, you will need to have sufficient sight, manual dexterity, and facial and body movement to produce and receive BSL. You will study three units: Introduction to British Sign Language, Conversational British Sign Language, and Communicate in Sign Language about everyday life. At the end of the qualification, you will be able to understand and use a limited range of words & sentences, take part in simple, everyday conversations, give & follow basic directions or instructions, and give & follow simple, familiar statements or descriptions.
