Since colleges were first incorporated in 1993 through the Further & Higher Education Act, Shipley College has been fully responsible for its own governance, management and administration.
Under this arrangement, the Principal and Senior Management Team report to a Governing Body (Corporation) which is made up of Members from the local business and wider community, together with Staff and Student Members.
The Shipley College Corporation is governed by the "Instrument and Articles of Further Education Corporations" of Government as amended which came into effect on 1st August 2018.
Executive Summary of the External Review 20/21
In summary, taking account of observations, interviews and documentation available, the review suggests that the governance of Shipley College is committed and supported, but the board and its committees could achieve greater influence and impact for the benefit of teaching and learning at Shipley College. This review identifies a number of ‘highly effective’ practices and some ‘effective’ practices and a number of practices which would benefit from ‘improvement’. To achieve further governing impact this review suggests that the governing body gives consideration to five main recommendations, in which an action plan and timeline has been implemented by the Governing Board to ensure all areas of governance fall into effective and highly effective practices moving forward. This action plan is a working document and will be reviewed and updated throughout the academic year.
