Traineeships

Are you 16-24*, enthusiastic, but not quite ready or qualified for an apprenticeship or job? A Traineeship could be the option for you.

We understand that it is not easy to find work if you have little or no work experience or qualifications. Traineeships help bridge the gap between the skills that you already have and those that employers need.

A Traineeship:

  • Lasts from 6 weeks to 6 months and is tailored to your needs.

  • Includes a short skills course where you learn CV writing, interview skills and working as part of a team.

  • Helps you improve your English and maths – subjects you need.

  • Includes a work placement to give you vital experience for your CV.

We offer Traineeships throughout the year in the following areas:

  • Business Administration

  • Customer Service

  • Teaching Assistant

  • Horticulture/Gardening

We may have opportunities in different areas throughout the year. If there is a particular job you are interested in, we can help match the training to your needs. To find out more please call 01274 327211

*Or are aged 19 - 25 and subject to a Learning Difficulty Assessment (LDA) or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) issued by your home local authority, you can also apply.

A Traineeship is a training programme that includes a work placement with an employer. You will gain relevant skills and experience in the industry you are interested in. This will set you on the right path for an apprenticeship or employment.

You can do a Traineeship if you are aged 16-24 and not currently in education, training or employment, or up to age 25 with an Education Health Care Plan EHCP in place.

There are no course fees and you may be eligible for a bursary to support your travel costs and for meals while on placement.

Traineeships can last between six weeks and six months. We want to ensure a positive outcome for you, so there is some flexibility, depending on your circumstances.

You will attend college for 1 or 2 days per week to study towards a short vocational qualification in the area of your choice. Depending on your current Math, English and IT Functional Skills, you will also have lessons in these to help you improve and gain confidence.

You will complete an unpaid work placement of between 70-240 hrs. This will be negotiated with the employer and the experience you gain will be important for your future.

A job is not always guaranteed at the end, however you will have improved your chances of further work or training. it is important you make a good impression throughout the Traineeship.  Upon completion of your Traineeship, you will have gained valuable skills to enhance your CV and will receive a written reference from your placement. This will include details on your timekeeping, attendance and punctuality, along with other relevant comments about your attitude to work and behaviour whilst on placement. This reference will help you move forward onto an apprenticeship, into employment, or on a relevant course in further education.

The main difference is the duration and level of commitment involved. As a trainee, you spend 70-240 hours on unpaid work placement gaining experience and functional skills to improve your employability. As an apprentice, you are employed by a company to work full-time 4 days a week. This is why Traineeships are often seen as a stepping stone to an apprenticeship.

Yes you will receive an accredited certificate for the vocational training you complete and certificates for the English and Maths that you achieve.
