Funding your studies

We know going back to education as an adult can be daunting, especially if you’re worried about how to fund your studies. Fortunately, there are lots of ways we can help!

Many students are eligible for a full fee reduction depending on personal circumstances, such as what previous qualifications you have, if you currently claim certain benefits or are unemployed. There have also been changes to the Government’s National Skills Fund that means more people than ever can qualify for free courses.

There is also support through the Learner Support Fund if you are 19+ to help with the cost of course fees, equipment, travel, and childcare.

Under each course, there is information as to whether there is support to cover costs. We have the following funding available;

If you are in receipt of benefits and actively seeking employment or in work earning less than £21,255 annually (£18,525 annually if not from an eligible regional postcode), you may be eligible for 100% fee reduction.

If you don’t meet the criteria for this funding you then, for eligible courses, you may be entitled to the Learner Support Fund if the household income is less than £25,000 (to claim travel the household income threshold is £21,000). For further information please contact Student Services on 01274 327281 or email studentservices@shipley.ac.uk.

Note: this is a limited fund so apply early to avoid disappointment.

You must be 19+ as of 31st August and not have GCSEs grade A*-C or 9-4.

For anyone 19+ to help fund the tuition fees to study qualifications at Level 3 or Level 4. Repayments on the loan (Plan 2) don't start until you have completed the course and you’ll only repay when your income is over £524 a week, £2,274 a month or £27,295 a year (before tax and other deductions).

If you are aged 19-23, meet the residency criteria and do not already have any of the following qualifications listed here, you may be entitled to have your course fees paid for your first Level 2 course.

If you are aged 19-23, meet the residency criteria and do not have any of the following qualifications listed here, you may be entitled to have your course fees paid for your first Level 3 course.
