ESOL
(English for Speakers of Other Languages)
We run ESOL courses on our main campus in Saltaire and in various places in the local community. Courses usually run for 1 year and are for adult learners (19years +) who are living and working in the UK. Our team of friendly tutors will help you improve your English and learn about life in the UK.
All courses run for 2 – 4 hours per week for 30 weeks. We have morning, afternoon and evening classes. Creche is available on some community courses.
You will study for a nationally recognised qualification. Assessments can be taken in reading, writing and speaking and listening. Your tutor will discuss the most appropriate programme with you and help you to acquire the necessary skills
Citizenship
All of our ESOL courses embed citizenship using materials derived from the Home Office/NIACE publications, "Citizenship for ESOL Learners". Students who achieve a speaking and listening qualification and fufill all the Home Office criteria may be able to use their course to support their citizenship application This is one of two Home Office accepted routes of evidencing the language element of your citizenship application and is appropriate for learners who are working at Entry level. Students who are interested in this should discuss it with their tutor who will advise them of the requirements.
You can get more information on applying for British citizenship by visiting www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk
