Our Students' Host Their Own Talent Show

A talent show organised by our Year 2 Level 3 Music Students, showcased Shipley College's full mix of students and their many talents.

Performances from 9 acts provided entertainment for all, with renditions of songs both past and present, along with Software Development's InMoov project, Titus, who acted as the Master of Ceremonies for the show.

The comperes for the show were Travel & Tourism students Merry and Charlotte, who volunteered when the organising committee were asking for people to help. Both had previous experience as comperes after performing the role for their Entertainment For Holiday Makers unit. When asked about the experience, Charlotte said, "I was nervous at first and not sure what I had let myself in for. It was a much bigger crowd than I expected and I was scared but excited. I am so proud that I did it, and now that I have, I am much more confident to do anything."

The acts were:

  • Beth, Charlotte & Josh with an acoustic version of Riptide by Vance Joy
  • Jason, Nathan & Harris singing Imagine by The Beatles
  • Joshie singing and signing Glitterball (So In Love With You) by Sigma
  • Take That Group singing Shine
  • Toby singing So Long Mariane by Leonard Cohen
  • Tiernay, Joshie & Abbie singing Shout Out To My Ex by Little Mix
  • Natasha singing Speechless by Rachel Platten
  • Tyler & Hadiyah performing Read All About It by Emili Sande
  • Aaron with a drum solo to The Boss by James Brown

The judging panel was made up of our Principal - Nav Chohan, Music Student - Luke Van Den Broeke and Louise Barton - Chair of Keighley Operatic & Amateur Dramatic Society, who had the impossible job of handing the awards to the talented acts that performed.

I am very proud of all their accomplishments. The whole event was very confident and professional, both from the performers to the setup and arrangement. The acts coped well under pressure even when things did not always go to plan. Nobody looked nervous and they all managed to perform so well and with confidence in front of quite a big crowd of their friends and fellow students.

It was really good to see students from different courses coming together to make this event such a success, with Music Technology students running the event, Creative Digital Media filming the event and Travel & Tourism students comparing the event.

Heather Savage, Head of Sector for Media, IT, Business & Music

The awards handed out went as follows:

  • 1st place, Tyler & Hadiyah
  • 2nd place - Toby
  • 3rd place - Little Mix Group
  • Best Audience Participation - Little Mix Group
  • Most Emotive Performance - Joshie

Everyone is extremely proud of all those who took part and we are looking forward to the next one!
